TRANSLATION
This is the traditional process of literal translation, where the goal is to keep the original idea unchanged and to seek a word-for-word relationship whenever possible. This modality is recommended when translating academic texts, corporate reports, instruction manuals, and in all contexts that require strictly formal language to be used.
PROOF-READING
Proof-reading is recommended when dealing with texts that have been previously translated, but for some reason did not meet the publication requirements. Grammatical issues are what often hinder texts during the approval/submission process. In this case, it is necessary to carry out a thorough correction throughout the entire text. Proof-reading is a standard protocol in my translations, and it is not necessary to request it when a translation has already been requested.
ADAPTATION
Adaptation is a translation modality in which texts are freely translated, where the word-for-word relationship between the original text and the translation is not preserved. It is a natural process that can take place even in some parts of a literal translation. This modality is the most recommended for projects of artistic and literary nature, where human dialogue is present.
EDITORIAL
Editorial services go beyond proof-reading and adaptation. These are instances in which it is necessary to build a glossary, to develop protocols and tools that ensure translation consistency, and to follow any protocols that are designed to meet specific criteria. Editorial services may be requested whenever texts must comply with specific standards, such as the norms that must be followed when publishing in a journal, for instance.
SUBTITLING
Subtitling is a well-known form of translation. Present in movies and series, subtitles can also be key accessibility elements in academic and corporate contexts. Subtitling deadlines may be longer than text translation deadlines, depending on the length and nature of the content that must be subtitled.
INTERPRETATION
There are two main interpretation modalities, one of them being vis-a-vis interpretation, which is when the interpreter and the speaker both agree on the timing for planned breaks, allowing some time for the interpreter to translate what has been said so far, and the other modality is simultaneous interpretation, which is carried out uninterruptedly. I prefer to work with vis-a-vis interpretation, as it is a modality that requires less planning with the context to be interpreted. I can provide simultaneous translation services, as long as I have the necessary advance notice.
ENGLISH CLASSES
I aim to provide lively classes that are based on the communicative approach. I believe in real-life experiences, where students get in touch with all four skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing). I also believe that grammar is an aspect that is absolutely important in the learning process. Some courses try to cut corners, but by leaving grammar out, these courses will fall apart whenever students have to face challenges such as the ones present in proficiency exams.
EXAM PREPARATION
The proficiency exam preparation programs include the exams that are requested the most in Brazil: the TEAP, TOEFL, TOEIC, and FCE exams. However, preparatory courses for exams that are not listed may be available upon request. It is very important for applicants to have some English language knowledge before starting the program. Alternatively, students may have no knowledge of the language at all, so long as they enroll well in advance so that a reliable study framework can be developed according to their needs.
CONSULTANCY
Language consultancy is a service provided to assist and support clients whenever translations are requested. This service is designed to meet several of my clients' needs, such as assisting clients in their communication with scientific journals, suppliers abroad, and their target audience in general. This is a service where opinion on translations can also be requested, bringing more aspects of a project to light in order to meet specific criteria.
